I just posted on my blog about my experience with my promotion in Karate. I did get my Advanced Green, but had to take a beating for it. :)
Sparring is fun, but it's pretty intimidating at first. Luckily, the senior belts tend to take it down a notch for those of us who are new to it.
By any chance do you know Senpai Todd Solly ? I know that he trained in New Zealand for several years, but he never told me exactly where. He is in the US now and he trains with us in Northern California.
We call them gradings (rather than promotions) over here. I've watched a few green belt gradings and the sparring alway seems so exhuasting! So you are doing well however you feel.
Not sure about that Senpai, but I'll ask around, we have a Jun Shihan, 2 Kyoshi and 2 Sensei who have all been training for over 20 years, so someone must know the name!
